Before 1944, oman used british india stamps without overprints. In 1944 british india post stamps and service stamps were issued in Oman with overprint "Al Bousaid 1363" in arabic.

In 1948, Mascate, Oman, Dubai and Qatar used the same british stamps with overprinted values in indian currency (Annas, Ruppes).

In 1957, Dubai stopped using the stamps of Muscat and used the stamps of South East Arabia (Trucial States),

In 1966, Qatar stopped using the stamps of Muscat and joined the Federation of Arab Emirates.

In 1966, special stamps were issued and labaled "Muscat & Oman".

In 1971, the Sultanate of Oman was created and issued stamps labeled "Sultanate of Oman".
